Dust Keeps Coming Back: Where to Start Before Buying a Purifier
Aira by PFCShare
You wipe the table, afternoon light comes through the window, and there it is again: a layer of dust. It is tempting to assume you need a more powerful appliance. Before buying, turn that frustration into a specific question: what is happening in this space?
The table tells part of the story
The EPA explains that indoor particles may come from outside or from activities inside the home. Material settling on furniture is not a measurement of particles remaining in the air. A surface is an observation, not a diagnosis.
Make a simple dust map
For a few days, note where you notice dust and what was happening. You do not need to turn your home into a laboratory. A phone note can be enough:
- The place: beside the entrance, near a window or on a particular piece of furniture.
- The timing: after an activity, when you return home or after opening a room.
- The context: nearby construction, people moving through, textiles or tasks worth reviewing.
Do not treat a coincidence as proof of a cause. Use the record to decide what to review first and what information to bring if you consult a professional.
Separate the tasks and expectations
In your household plan, distinguish surface care, a review of possible sources and assessment of equipment for the air. A purifier does not collect dust from a shelf or replace cleaning it.
A busy entrance, for example, may call for a different review from a rarely used bedroom. Defining one need per room makes for a clearer conversation than asking for “something that removes all the dust”.
