Where to Put an Air Purifier: Look Beyond the Pretty Corner

Aira by PFC

The corner beside the sofa looks perfect. The device matches the room and is almost hidden. Before choosing that spot, try something simpler: look at the room as a working space, not just a photograph.

First, check the airflow path

The EPA technical summary on residential air cleaners explains that location affects performance. Walls, furniture and curtains should not block the inlet or outlet. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the required clearances.

Make a small map of the room

Sketch the room on a sheet of paper and mark two possible locations. For each one, ask:

  • Can I follow the model’s installation instructions here?
  • Could a cupboard door or curtain occupy this space during the day?
  • Can I comfortably reach the controls and filter compartment?
  • Would the cable and unit stay out of people’s usual walking route?

These are planning questions. The equipment manual determines safe installation, the appropriate surface and required distances. There is no need to guess a universal measurement.

Think about replacement day, too

Imagine it is time to inspect the filter. If you must move half the living room to reach the unit, the second spot on your map may deserve another look. Caring for the equipment should be as planned as switching it on.

Save a photograph of the chosen location with the manual and room measurements. You will have a clear starting point for discussing compatibility when comparing models.
